‘The Art and Science of Parenting’ Howth, Dublin 30 June – 1 July 2012

Thank you everyone who attended the course, and thank you Anna, Ina and Ian for everything that you did to bring the course about (and for inviting me)!

We focused on NVC with young children (under five years old) in this group. I remember that the importance of self-connection for us as parents, and tools that NVC offers to achieve this, has come up a lot during this course. I also remember, how working with ‘No’ with young children and use of force and sharing power in NVC has generated a lot of interest, discussion, questions, and provided and lot of food for thought and supported practice in the group.

We have used different methods for practicing listening from our hearts and sharing from our hearts, including crayons, toys and storytelling.

‘The Art and Science of Parenting’ Talk Galway 27 June 2012

The purpose of this talk, as with all of the other talks, was to give everyone a flavour, a taste of NVC, so that everyone present had more information to go on to decide whether NVC is a skill that they would like to add to their parenting tool box. As one example, how NVC may offer skills for daily parenting, amongst other things, was demonstrated in a role-play of a situation where a child would want to play with (pretend! 🙂 ) guns, and the parent was so not sure about it! The situation, the role play and approach generated a lot of discussion and interest.

Special thanks to Olwen for coordinating this talk and finding the space that worked so well for it :).

‘The Art and Science of Parenting’ Galway 23-24 June 2012

Huge thanks to Olwen Rowe for organising this course, and for everyone who attended for their making time in their busy lives to work with the themes and situations around parenting.

Once everyone practiced the ‘building blocks’ of NVC using some practical examples, we worked on a variety of real-life parenting situations, in a variety of formats. I feel humbled remembering the level of trust and openness in the group – and trust in me as a facilitator. A variety of ages of children that the group participants had meant that there was a variety of situations, and it was possible to see the versatility of NVC as a method and possibilities of using it with different age groups (inculding adults :)!), under different circumstances.

Special thanks to Claire and Olwen for all their help and support in logistics and practicalities: it  really supported me and  contributed to much ease in me during this weekend. I remember pretty much everyone in the group commenting how much they enjoyed the teas and the snacks (tasty, nutritious and beautiful – I still remember these raw chocolate truffles – thank you so much Olwen!). We also really appreciated the venue we had – the space, lightness and airiness (thank you so much Deidre and Sinead at Devon Holistic Centre).

‘Compassionate Communication for Empowered Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond’ Saturday 26 May 2012, at BOSS Fair, Wigan

My hope for this talk has been to show many uses of Nonviolent Communication TM (NVC) for empowering parents, pregnancy and birth supporters (doulas, antenatal teachers, etc) and health professionals. We have used practical situations of those in the group to demonstrate how NVC as one of the skills can diffuse a situation and lead to greater connection, harmony and peace via effective, open, honest and empathic communication. I remember the heart-felt interest and curiousity and connection in the group with much warmth and appreciation.

Thank you so much Jennie for organising the fair and inviting me to offer this presentation, and thank you everyone who attended.

If you are interested in this topic and missed this talk, there is a shorter 30-minute talk with the same theme at York ‘Attached’ Fair on 8 July, 1.45-2.15pm.

‘The Art and Science of Parenting’ Hebden Bridge 7-8 April 2012

Thank you everyone for attending this course. I remember the warmth and care and mutual support in the group, and comfortable, safe and trusting atmosphere. Amongst many other things, we have focused in-depth on using Nonviolent Communication TM (NVC) with younger children (under five years old). We also have really appreciated the Nutclough Tavern’s wonderful, scrumptious and nutritious lunches and snacks – thank you so much Fern and everyone else at the venue! And eating out in the garden on Sunday was an added bonus.

Pictures at an Exhibition… or, it’s been raining LOVE :)

Heart to Heart Connection attended a Natural Parenting Fair at Horsforth on Saturday 18 February. It was fun! Thank you Anna and the team for putting all effort and care into organising it (and special thanks to Sally for the care and kindness in bringing me a piece of dairy-free carrot cake 🙂 ).

I have really enjoyed chatting to all friends old and new and talking to everyone who has come up to the stall. I loved seeing all children of all ages around, too, and so many slings – on the stalls and on the parents.

I also want to say HUGE THANKS to Irene, my friend and favourite graphic designer and artist Irene for translating my sketch of a banner into such a beautiful, vibrant graphic image – and for all her support in getting it to me in time for the exhibition!

My only regret is that I left a bit early and did not stay till the very end (although it was towards the end when I did leave :). My younger daughter got fairly sick, and I wanted to get back to be with her and nurse her, and to provide some support to my husband (I am feeling really grateful to him and his wonderful parents, who were with the children when I was at the fair). I trusted that everyone who wanted to talk to me about the Parenting Courses and Talks that I offer has had a good chance to do so – if it is not the case and you wanted to talk to me and did not have a chance to, I would love to hear from you either on hearttoheartconnection @ gmail.com (no spaces), or contact me via my phone in the Contact Details.

I hope very much to be at the fair next year – and to see everyone again :).

‘Compassionate Communication for your Child’s Early Years – Art and Science of Parenting’ talk on 19 January 2012

Huge thanks to Anna Atkinson, the Leader and organiser of the Leeds Attachement Parenting Group, and to everyone who turned up for the ‘Compassionate Communication for your Child’s Early Years – Art and Science of Parenting’ talk on 19 January 2012.

It was a privilege to meet everyone (including the younger members of the group), and to offer the group a flavour of what parenting with Compassionate Communication may be like in their child’s early years.

Special thanks to Anna for teaming up with me to role-play how using Compassionate Communication to work with your child around an everyday issue would look.

And huge thanks to Alison for taking the photographs (and for everyone who said it would be OK for them to be in the pictures)!

I really appreciate the gift of time and effort from those of you who have chosen to give me some feedback, either written or verbal – again, thank you so much.

Thanks for looking :).
